Freshers’ parties are awesome places for varied personalities to meet and bond with each other – from the nerd to the college stud, from the fashion diva to the girl who finds college an escape from the harsh reality of life. It is at such parties that associations are formed, which sometimes go on to last lifetimes! Isn’t that exciting?
Expectations are high from the freshers’ party at Excel College, and the students just can’t wait for it to happen! It is a highly anticipated event by one and all. They are looking forward to bond, meet their fellows and have fun! There’s a lot of effort that goes into planning a freshers’ party and organizing one, here are some tips for those of you wanting to host one soon.
Forming committees, Batwara!
Forming separate committees of teachers and/or students to take care of different aspects of the freshers’ party would be a great idea. When committees are decided for everything from fundraisers and decorations to security, refreshments and cleaning up, it ensures that the party organization goes on smoothly, with the minimal of problems. You don’t want anything to go haywire on one of the most important days of your juniors’ lives!
Apna Ishtyle!
It is a great idea to fix a theme for a freshers’ party. The theme can be anything – you could even decide upon a movie and ask the students to dress up in a way that would represent the movie. The college could call for suggestions from the students for deciding upon the theme. Make it democratic, conduct a poll to determine the most favourite theme. If no theme has been decided upon, a simple dress code can also be fixed, and communicated in advance to the students. Avoid boring themes as they might bring down the mood of the party. Do remember to dress up in the clothes which identify with your personality, and are what you like. Don’t be a fashion victim. The first impression is the last impression! Impress everyone by the way you dress up!
Jab Freshers Meet!
Arrange for fun games!! It is a good idea for the seniors and the freshers to get introduced to each other and interact! It acts as an ice breaks between seniors and juniors. So, participate!
Kab? Kahan? Kaise?
A suitable venue and timing for the party should be decided upon in advance. The venue should be such that all the students would enjoy, and the time should be such that the students can reach home safely after the party. The date, time and venue of the party should be conveyed effectively to the students well in advance. Book that cab for your would–be friends!
Deck up the place!
The person/s in charge of the decorations should choose them tastefully, in accordance with the theme of the party. Beautiful decorations would go a long way in creating a fun and frolicky party mood among the students. It’s sets in the mood, you know?!!
Khane Me Kya Hai?
Appropriate and adequate refreshments should be arranged for. It would be good to have an assortment of refreshments, so that each student can pick up something of his/her own taste. It would not be a good idea to serve alcohol at a freshers’ party, though. It’ll help prove to the college administration that you’re responsible!
Music… Gaana Bajaana!
Arranging for the right kind of music is a must for a freshers’ party! When choosing a band or a disc jockey, it would be good to rely upon someone who is known for playing good music and not experiment with something new. You might want to play both bollywood and western numbers. That’ll keep you from monotony and will help you to rock better on the dance floor! Hire a DJ or just pull up that wacko kid who is always plugged to the ear phones - if you know its good – to play it out loud to the entire crowd so everyone can groove together to his or her beats
Keeping watch
It is necessary for the college staff and the mighty seniors to keep a watchful eye on the students at the party, and ensuring that no untoward incident takes place. You don’t want your students to get into risky situations, or the reputation of the institution to get tarnished! We hope the party is a grand success, and everyone has the time of their lives!

The first one fresher’s party is nothing like anything ever after. It would also be a good idea to arrange for some keepsakes for the students. Depending on the budget, you can pick from paper napkins to framed snap shots that can be embossed with the date and venue of the party, which serve as great keepsakes. Alternatively, the college can decide to provide some mementos, which would serve as beautiful reminders of college life, eternally. A reliable and experienced photographer can be hired, and framed photographs of the event can also be used as mementos.
